Date Posted: Oct. 20, 2026
Limay Polytechnic College (LPC), through the Enviro-Care Advocate Society, officially launched the “No Plastic on a Monday” initiative during the Special Flag-Raising Ceremony held at the LPC Quadrangle on October 19, 2026, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to environmental protection, resource conservation, and sustainable campus development.
The initiative envisions LPC as a greener local college campus that actively promotes environmental stewardship, nature conservation, and responsible resource utilization through education and collective action.
It calls on the entire institutional community to adopt practical, environmentally conscious habits that contribute to a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable learning and working environment.
Among its key advocacy measures are avoiding single-use plastic materials, bringing reusable tumblers and water containers instead of purchasing bottled water, and minimizing the consumption of junk food and soft drinks commonly packaged in disposable plastics.
Through these simple but purposeful actions, the College seeks to cultivate responsible consumption habits and demonstrate how individual choices can create a wider environmental impact.
Promoting Environmental Responsibility Through Collective Action
Ms. Julie Diaz, adviser of the Enviro-Care Advocate Society, reminded the LPC community of its shared responsibility to sustain a healthy, safe, and clean campus.
She emphasized the importance of active participation and consistent environmental practices, underscoring that meaningful change begins with the everyday actions of students, faculty members, and administrative personnel.
The initiative demonstrates that LPC’s educational mission extends beyond academic and professional formation.
It also encompasses the development of environmentally responsible individuals who recognize their role in protecting natural resources and advancing sustainable development.
Meanwhile, College President Dr. Elmer B. De Leon commended the Enviro-Care Advocate Society, led by Ms. Diaz, for initiating a practical and meaningful environmental advocacy that combines awareness-building with concrete action.
Dr. De Leon highlighted the relevance of the initiative to LPC’s recent participation in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2026, an international sustainability assessment in which the College earned recognition for its inaugural engagement.
LPC received its ranking certificate and Institutional Fact File, providing the institution with important references for evaluating its sustainability performance, identifying areas for improvement, and strengthening its environmental programs through continuous quality improvement.
He emphasized that international sustainability recognition should serve not merely as an institutional milestone but also as a continuing responsibility to improve campus practices, strengthen environmental management, and encourage the participation of every member of the College community.
Advancing the Dangal Green Campus Revolution
In line with this commitment, Dr. De Leon reiterated his aspiration to transform LPC into a Green Campus through the Dangal Green Campus Revolution Program, an institutional initiative intended to mobilize the community toward more sustainable practices and environmentally responsible operations.
The “No Plastic on a Monday” initiative serves as a practical starting point for this broader aspiration, encouraging LPCians to translate environmental awareness into daily habits and shared institutional responsibility.
The College aims to strengthen its sustainability efforts through reduced plastic consumption, responsible waste management, resource conservation, and other environmentally conscious programs aligned with its institutional development priorities and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Dr. De Leon called on the entire LPC community to embrace the initiative and contribute actively to making the College’s Green Campus aspiration a reality, emphasizing that lasting sustainability requires consistency, cooperation, and collective commitment.
Strengthening Campus Health and Safety
The Special Flag-Raising Ceremony also served as an avenue for strengthening the College’s health and safety services.
During the program, Dr. De Leon formally introduced Ms. Edlyn Grace I. Rubio, RN, the newly appointed School Nurse, to the LPC community.
Her introduction marks an important step in strengthening the College’s Health Services Team and sustaining accessible health assistance for students and employees.
Following her introduction, Ms. Rubio announced the Municipality’s call for the mandatory wearing of face masks as a precautionary measure against the spread of contagious respiratory illnesses associated with coughs and colds.
The reminder reinforced the importance of observing appropriate health protocols and practicing personal responsibility to help protect the campus community.
Meanwhile, Ms. Jesica Marata of the Office of Student Affairs, Discipline and Services (OSADS) reiterated the importance of emergency preparedness, risk reduction, and safety awareness.
Consistent with the College’s regular reminders during flag ceremonies and institutional activities, she encouraged students to remain informed, alert, and prepared for emergencies and other potential risks.
Building a Culture of Sustainability, Wellness, and Shared Responsibility
The launch of “No Plastic on a Monday” reflects LPC’s integrated approach to institutional development, recognizing that environmental sustainability, health protection, safety preparedness, and quality education are interconnected responsibilities.
By encouraging sustainable habits, strengthening campus health services, and reinforcing emergency preparedness, LPC continues to promote a learning and working environment where environmental care and community well-being are integral to institutional culture.
As the College advances its Dangal Green Campus Revolution, the success of this initiative will depend on the sustained participation of every LPCian.
Each reusable tumbler, every avoided single-use plastic item, and every responsible environmental choice represents a meaningful contribution to a cleaner campus and a healthier planet.
At LPC, small actions create lasting change. Together, let us make every Monday a reminder that environmental responsibility is everyone's commitment—not just for a greener campus, but for a more sustainable future. #
