Limay Polytechnic College's Teacher Education Department hosted its annual event HIYASanay: EDUC Congress with the theme โ€œTransition and Transformation in Basic Education: Updates, Trends, and Issues for Development,โ€ held at Limay Sports Complex, May 28.

Ms. April R. Cruz, Head of Teacher Education Department and Director of the Academic Affairs, welcomed all the participants and wished for the students to listen carefully to the discussions as the topics will greatly help them in their careers.

Guest speaker Mr. John R. Quiroz, School Principal II of Lamao NHS, discussed the newly implemented โ€œThree-Term Academic Systemโ€ enforced by the Department of Education (DepEd).

He reminded everyone in his speech through a question,โ€If not now, then when? Kailan pa natin gagawin yung mga pagbabagong ito kung hindi sisimulan?.โ€

Quiroz also uttered that the new curriculum was made for the betterment of the quality of education in the country.

The school principal furthermore explained the various reasons why classes are getting cancelled and how the three term calendar can help lessen the cancellations and its benefits to both students and instructors.

He also addressed the issue of workload compression and how the students and instructors were forced to understand months of lessons in a span of weeks due to limited school days that were caused by the cancellation of classes causing stress among the related parties.

On the other hand, Dr. Leovigildo E. Domingo Jr., School Principal III, Kanawan IS, who served as the second speaker, started his discussion with an interactive game of fact or bluff about the newly revised curriculum.

He shared how the revision of the curriculum was made and the learning principles behind the revision.

Domingo also imparted the 4Iโ€™s (Inclusive, Ideational, Integrative, Innovative), 4Cโ€™s (Context, Collaboration, Connection, Creativity), and 4Eโ€™s ( Engage, Explore, Experience, Empathize), of the Instructional Design Framework of the MATATAG Curriculum.

He finished his lecture by wishing the students good luck on which path they take,โ€So, mga future educators, let us continue creating meaningful learning experiences and lifelong love for learning,โ€ Dr. Domingo added.

Meanwhile, the long awaited HIYAS Tagisan: EDUC Quiz Bee took place as the last activity of the day, led by college instructors Ms. Queences Ricel G. De Guzman and Ms. Via M. Satingin.
Each representative of different sections and grade levels competitively tested each otherโ€™s wits and knowledge with the passion to be hailed as the sole winner.

Moreover, Ms. Jana Marie D. Mangune, DTE program coordinator, thanked everyone who participated in the event.
โ€œWe would like to express our sincere gratitude to all of the individuals who made this event successful,โ€ she said. #
