Limay Polytechnic College Information Officer John Rudolph G. Barbin, together with veteran photojournalist Jimmy Domingo and members from the Photojournalistsβ Center of the Philippines (PCP) led the mentorship during the recently concluded βLikhang-Katha,β a two-day photojournalism training workshop held in line with the Kamote Festival at Moncada, Tarlac, Feb. 14β15.
Around 80 participants from Tarlac, Pangasinan, Bataan, and Laguna joined the workshop, which aimed to strengthen the skills of aspiring photojournalists in visual storytelling and news coverage.
The training began with lectures from Domingo and PCP members, who discussed photography fundamentals, ethical storytelling, and effective caption writing.
The training was continued through a guided field activity in the Moncada Poblacion area, where the agri-fair and traditional bahay kubo displays served as real-life subjects for coverage and critique.
Barbin also shared practical tips on photography and proper interviewing techniques, helping participants to produce more accurate and compelling photojournalism outputs.
The trainees later on applied their learning that identify meaningful moments and improve composition on the second day of the seminar-workshop by covering the Mondaca Fest Grand Parade which includes cultural events, different district floats, and community scenes.
The Likhang-Katha concluded with Barbin and PCP members offered final evaluations and professional advice on photo selection, editing, and preparing images for publication, helping participants understand the standards followed in professional media practice.
Barbinβs inclusion as one of the mentors reflected both his personal growth and the role of LPC in developing media practitioners. #
