Two entries from Limay Polytechnic College made it in the prime 7 finalists in this year's coveted Young Farmers Challenge Intercollegiate conducted by the Department of Agriculture. Fourth year Business students' HydroHarvest Farm: Hydrophonics as Innovation in Alternative Farming for Agribusiness Industry in Limay; and First Year Business students' Fishtilizer: From Waste to Wage for Sustainable Development among Limayan Farmers and Vegetable Consumers were chosen to be two of the seven final entries to be presented for product pitching on October 30, 2024 at the DA Building, San Fernando, Pampanga upon passing the initial screening in September 2024. To note, the YFCI is an annual competition on agribusiness product innovations among agriculture and business institutions in the country. Winners will be eligible for grant amounting to 250,000 as business start-up. Amazingly, LPC is the only local college that was able to enter and pass the screening process, and the only institution among others that has two approved entries being its first time experience and opportunity. The agribusiness concepts went through rigid process and validation to ensure strong investigation and experiment results on the possibilities and efficiency of the product innovation. It went through the rigid process of consultation with coordinating agencies, such as the Office of Municipal Agriculturist (OMA), Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), Public Market Office (PMO), farmers and agriculturists in the upland areas. Notably, the fourth year students' work was their output in the Expanded Business Research, while the first year's entry was their community project in NSTP. Hence, both entries bring significance of helping and assisting poor farmers in their plant production, while food consumers in their healthy vegetable consumption. Truly, a testament of empowering LPCians in creating greater global impact to the communities through research and innovation projects for worthy utilization. The LPC Community is proud of the student contingents, their adviser, department head and mentor, Ms. Julie Diaz, Mr. Ariel Vibar and Dr. Elmer De Leon; and the assistance of Ms. Frances Anne Genese (for the research aspect), Ms. Ann Lou Santiago (for the extension program coordination) ; and Mr. Mark Anthony Banda (for the marketing and product pitching strategies). #SDG3goodhealthandwellbeing #SDG2ZeroHunger #Sdg1 NoPoverty #SDG10ReducedInequalities
