Pres. Dr. Elmer B. de Leon, vice president for Luzon of the Philippine Association for Teachers and Educators (PAFTE), graced and served as keynote speaker at the PAFTE Region 1 Educators' Conference themed: Shaping the Future: Global Citizenship in the Age of Artificial Intelligence on September 27, 2024 at the La Union Convention Center, City of San Fernando, La Union. Dr. De Leon walked through with the participants on the role of Artificial Intelligence in educational development, innovation and reform. He also made everyone reflect on technology ethics in the light of safety risks, privacy, health, scams, fraud and copyright issues that need extra caution, empowerment and reorientation. He also stressed on equity, equality and opportunity in the use of technology, especially those in the remote grassroots and marginalized sectors of the community. Other topics were concisely and elaboratively presented by the Commission on Higher Education Region 1 officials. To wit: Artificial Intelligence in Education by EPS Dr. Albert Subang; and Global Citizenship Education by. RD Dr. Christine Nabor-Ferrer. Meanwhile, timely in celebration of World Teachers' Day, EPS Dr. Al Gerald Barde inspired the attendees on his Staying Alive with the Mission of Teaching; while EPS Dr. Mitchelene Rivo gave the latest CHED Updates and Dr. Maria Tereza Bautista from the Department of Education for the updates. "Indeed, we really cannot skip and escape from technology, but in our hands lies the brim of responsibility to work on to benefit everyone justly in the academe," expressed Dr. De Leon.
