Dr. Elmer B. De Leon had the chance to meet and greet Dr. Virgio Almario, a National Artist for Literature and former chairman of the Komisyon ng Wikang Filipino, a government agency that advocates development of Filipino language. To note, Almario is a well- known poet, prolific writer, author, translator, critic, editor, teacher and cultural manager. He is popularly known for his pen name Rio Alma. Likewise, being a Filipino language specialist, teacher, author, critic, translator, writer and language consultant and researcher himself, Dr. De Leon felt elated to meet his language idol whom he considers an icon in fighting for the Filipino language. Hence, he did not fail to ask Rio Alma to sign the book that he availed at the UP booth. This will be displayed at the LPC library for a rare of a lifetime opportunity to be kept for Filipino majors across generations at LPC, a masterpiece from one whom they read and learn from books and class lessons.
