Preservice Teachers honed on Matatag Curriculum in Sympo

Posted Sep-17-2024

In order to prepare and expand the knowledge and competencies of future-ready teachers on the new curriculum in place in DepEd schools, the Teacher Education Department conducted a symposium on "Shaping Tomorrow's Educators: Navigating the Matatag Curriculum" at the AVR on September 11, 2024 with Dr. Joan D. Padua, School Principal III at St. Francis II (Petron) Elem. School and Mr. John Quiroz, Principal II at Lamao National High School. Padua presented the K-10 Instructional Design Framework that encompasses four key aspects: Content, Connection, Collaboration, and Creativity with Instructional Principles on Inclusive, Ideational, Integrative, and Innovative. She also discussed the four facets or events, namely: Engage, Explore, Experience, and Empathize. Meanwhile, Quiroz elaborated the Matatag Curriculum Agenda, including the curriculum revision process, features that focus on foundational skills in Language, Reading and Literacy, Mathematics, Makabansa, and Good Manners and Right Conduct (GMRC), while highlighting how the new curriculum differs from the current one. Moreover, the resource speakers elucidated their experiences and insights about teaching, of which future teachers may encounter in the field. The said symposium is a big help to preservice teachers as they take-off to the field in basic education in time of their deployment. The program was arranged and managed by the Future Educators' Guild supervised by Mr. Isaac Valdez, adviser. Report by Daniella Mhay Mateo Photos by Chris Bautista
