Limay Polytechnic College president Dr. Elmer De Leon held an integration discussion with the Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) through Ms. Ma. Lourdes Herrera, Deputy Administrator for Support Services, on February 26 at the AFAB Administration Building in Mariveles, Bataan.

Accordingly, Ms. Herrera, who is also an educator, shared some thoughts on the demands and trends in freeport management and services that they practice. She also cited developments and innovations in this field, briefly narrating the historical evolution of AFAB from EPZA management, along with sound principles and systems.

Likewise, Dr. De Leon explained that the academe, like LPC, prepares students to become future-ready in the workplace. He also solicited support from industry, such as the AFAB, to provide input on the review and the needed revision of the curriculum to ensure alignment and harmonization with the formation of future human capital that LPC will promptly supply to the industry.

The two distinct heads of the partner entities exchanged ideas on how they would work together to fulfill their separate roles and tasks and produce a quality workforce suited to the new job market.

At the latter part of the discussion, they tackled the possible assistance that AFAB may extend to LPC. Dr. De Leon mentioned the training and deployment of business and accountancy interns, which may lead to future job opportunities. He also invited the latter to the academe-industry forum at LPC to gain insights for the review and revision of the curriculum, the conduct of relevant programs, the design of innovative frameworks, and the formulation of related policies, as Ms. Herrera affirmed.

Meanwhile, Dr. John Levy Rueda, head of the Department of Business and Accountancy, officially endorsed five interns approved for deployment in AFAB and requested that more be accommodated if ever.

In turn, Ms. Herrera articulated their roles and responsibilities in mentoring the interns in the offices to which they will be assigned. She also reiterated the proper communication process, the dos and don'ts while inside the AFAB, and possible assistance that can be extended to the interns, such as enjoining them in the service vehicle if there are still available seats, ensuring their safety and protection, and addressing their general welfare to the best of their interests.

However, she also resonated thewith ir expectations of the interns regarding adherence to company policies, work attitude, service-oriented attributes, resilience and perseverance, and learnability. These things were ensured by Dr. De Leon among the interns, the way LPC molds and educates them.

At the end, Dr. De Leon acknowledged the AFAB, through Ms. Herrera and the rest of the officers and personnel who were present during the conversation and deployment of the interns, who started immediately that day.

Before leaving the building, Dr. De Leon had a briefing meeting with the interns.

To note, a memorandum of understanding was already concluded between LPC and AFAB for this purpose, a week before the visit.

This coordination opportunity is conducted to strengthen LPC's public-private partnership in the light of internship, career placement, curriculum review, academe-industry integration, and extension programs and services. #
