In a tripartite environmental extension partnership to promote green space preservation, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) – Sta. Mesa, the Limay Polytechnic College (LPC), and the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) conducted a tree planting event in Sitio Kinaragan, Brgy. Duale, Limay, Bataan, October 16.

Nearly 200 participants from LPC, PUP (Main and Mariveles campuses), and MENRO Limay led by Mr. Johnny Mandocdoc joined the activity, along with members of the Kinaragan Indigenous People Community, Philippine National Police, Philippine Army, Limay Security Unit, and Kinaragan Integrated School.

Hon. Rosario R. Perez, Chair for the Committee on Agriculture and Environment of the Sangguniang Bayan of Limay graced the planting activity.

Dr. Angelina E. Borican, Asst. Vice President for Research, Extension, and Development of PUP, expressed her gratitude to all who took part in the event which became a significant and meaningful part of the university’s 121st founding anniversary celebration.

β€œSa ngalan po ng aming pangulo na si Dr. Manuel M. Muhi, kami po ay nagpapasalamat sa Bayan ng Limay at sa Limay Polytechnic College sa pagtanggap sa amin para maisakatuparan ang tree planting activity na ito,” articulated Dr. Borican.

Dr. Rolan J. Malvar, Director of the PUP Extension Management Office, highlighted that the tri-collaboration partnership will greatly benefit not only the environment but also the local community, as the 600 cashew seedlings planted may serve as a future livelihood source among residents.

Also present during the activity were Dr. Jackie D. Urrutia, Director of Research Management and Intellectual Property office; Dr. Edcon Baccay, Chief of the Extension Linkages & Technology Transfer Section; Dr. Angelita Villaruel, Chief of the Extension Support Monitoring and Evaluation Section; Assoc. Prof. Airavie Joy D.R. Austria, Chief of Community Relations and Outreach Services Section; Ms. Mariah Sharmaine S. Liquigan from the PUP Day Care Center; and the faculty and staff.

From LPC's end were Mr. Joemark Ablian, Research Development and Extension Office Director; Ms. Julie Diaz, LPC Community Development Coordinator; Dr. John Levy Rueda, Head of Department of Business and Accountancy; and the LPC faculty and non-teaching staff, led by College President Dr. Elmer B. De Leon.

The activity aimed to raise environmental awareness and promote a greener and safer environment for future generations.

On the other hand, both LPC and PUP will follow-up and monitor the growth of those plants in the site for the purpose of sustainability.

To note, close coordination was made possible thru the collaborative efforts of the National Service Training Program (NSTP) for community coordination, the QUALITI Office for the binding partnership, the Enviro-care Organization, and the Media Services and Public Information Office for the publication and promotion. #
