EDU-KALINGA "Connected and Confident : Essential Life Skills for Senior Citizen in Their Golden Years"

Based on conducted interviews, senior citizens are given less emphasis on social engagement and equal educational opportunities, even just basic skills. In effect, they feel neglected of the prioritization they need and badly deserve.
As such, Limay Polytechnic College, thru the Department of Teacher Education crafted a program dubbed as Edukalinga (Educare), specifically tailored to the elderly populace of the adopted barangay by providing basic competencies and skills in reading, writing, communication skills, interpersonal relations and lifelong learning, including basic livelihood training. This program intends to empower the elderly (senior citizens) in
prolonging equal educational opportunities amidst age, economic condition and social status and gender differences.
The curriculum intended for the program is contextualized and made more inclusive (Sdg4) and culture and gender sensitive (Sdg5) relevant and appropriate to the particular populace that would elucidate gains to the beneficiaries to practice and actualize their learning as part of the generative process.
At the end, they can demonstrate their learning from the program by showcasing their skills through direct purposive experiential activities regardless of their age, gender and statuses (Sdg 5, 10). They may also present their outputs from their activity and livelihood training engagement (Sdg4). Thus, formal graduation ceremonies culminate the program by recognizing their active participation, performance and quality learning, while assessing their learning outcomes.
In turn, the beneficiaries may sustain their economic needs through simple earning capabilities and opportunities (Sdg8), provide their medication need in a healthier environment.
Truly, this program equalizes and takes balance learning opportunities (Sdg10) and elicits real inclusive lifelong learning environment and personal and interpersonal development to elderly populace (Sdg10) in the adopted barangay in partnership with the Local Government (Sdg17) for sustainable community (Sdg11).
