Spearheaded by the Kapisanan ng mga Mag-aaral sa Filipino (KamFil), Limay Polytechnic College (LPC) successfully held its annual Buwan ng Wika celebration last Friday, with cultural activities, competitions, and educational workshops, at the LPC grounds, August 29.

The program commenced with an opening message delivered by Ms. Renziel C. Reyes, followed by a heartfelt welcome and words of appreciation from Mrs. April R. Cruz, Director of the Department of Teacher Educator.

The celebration was imbued with Filipino spirit, highlighted by various competitions organized by KamFil. LPC students actively participated in contests such as Poster Making, Experimental Poetry, Photo Contest, Spoken Word Poetry, and Original Music Composition.

A major highlight of the celebration was the traditional β€œLaro ng Lahi”, which brought excitement and energy to the event and served as the main attraction of the day.

To conclude the celebration, Mr. Joshua D. Rogador delivered a closing message, congratulating all winners from the different contests and commending KamFil for its excellent leadership and the successful execution of the entire program.

Prior to Friday's main event, KamFil also conducted a series of workshops (Palihan) aligned with the Buwan ng Wika theme.

The first workshop focused on the importance of promoting Filipino Sign Language for individuals with speech and hearing impairments, as well as the preservation of indigenous languages among the country’s Indigenous Peoples Groups.

Keynote speakers included Dr. Jennifer Dominguez, a well-known advocate for sign language, and Mr. Ivan Gail Yarra, head of Kinaragan Integrated School and champion of the Ayta Magbukun indigenous group.

The second workshop delved into language and social history. Mr. Arthur S. Quezon, an officer from the Limay Tourism Office and LGBTQ+ advocate, discussed gender-inclusive language, while Mr. Adam Helson G. Elardo, a language scholar and current head of the Filipino Department at Limay National High School, shared insights on the topic β€œLanguage of Free Expression.”

Overall, LPC’s Buwan ng Wika celebration proved to be a meaningful and successful event. Through competitions, workshops, and culturally rooted programs, the celebration strengthened the appreciation of the Filipino language, culture, and national identity.
