Tons of garbage (around 68.4 cubic meters) are usually collected each day in different barangays, while residents lament on its mal effect on them, such as distracting stinky smell, rampant diseases accumulated by babies and children and it continuously destroys the environment by clogging and cluttering the water sewage and canals at the very least. Hence, it brings havoc, of pollution in the place. A big headache it causes the local government, while residents take a little or no action at all on their end to remedy the problem but they just depend on local government for interventions, the way they seek for their living costs to survive. Likewise, this lack of awareness and concern brings them to keep themselves busy with gambling, gossiping and quarrelling with neighbors.

Hence, to address this resolve, the Limay Polytechnic College, thru the Community Extension Unit and in coordination with the local government of Limay (SDG17) conceptualized the Program called Pamahayanan 2.0 which intends to identify the primary waste variants, segregate them and divert into different forms for sale and home use and display. In effect, it provides income (SDG8) among residents while keeping them busy and free from elicit activities and conflicts with neighborhood (SDG16). They also help out in taking care of the environment (SDG13), while providing their economic needs (SDG1) to feed their children (SDG2) toward sustainable communities (SDG11). The partnership between the identified barangay and the institution (SDG17) creates a lasting global impact by empowering everyone on responsible consumption and production (SDG12), thus, making a social change and transformation through powerful innovations and ensuring their state of health and well-being (SDG3).

Currently, with reduced litters and garbage, it is ensured that lives of both those on land (SDG15) and seas (SDG14) are sustained through ecological balance through backyard plant keeping. Likewise, it reciprocates counter-benefits among student-benefactors and program key players by experiencing great joy and sound fulfillment as a gratified revenue in this amazing life changing innovation and selfless community engagement as the real essence of lifelong learning education. (SDG4).

Truly, it only proves that no amount of challenges can ever deter one’s determination ad aspiration to make a change regardless of status, gender, social conditions(SDG 5 & 10). Truly the Pamahayanan 2.0 makes a difference in the lives of many while it creates greater impact on communities being served toward responsible and sustainable development.
