Limay Polytechnic College (LPC) on Wednesday, January 28, has been awarded a Young Scientist Research Grant under the Department of Science and Technology–National Research Council of the Philippines (DOST-NRCP) through the Young Scientist Incentives Program (YSIP) for Fiscal Year 2025.

The grant approval was confirmed through a formal Notice of Award from the NRCP, recognizing LPC’s approved research project titled “IP-Preneurship Empowerment Program: Capacitating Ayta Magbukun Women in Bataan on Product Development, Entrepreneurship Potential and Marketing Strategies for Sustainable Development.”

The funded project falls under the gender-based community research category and focuses on empowering women from the Ayta Magbukun Indigenous People (IP) community in Sitio Kinaragan, Limay, Bataan.

It aims to enhance livelihood sustainability by strengthening product development skills, entrepreneurship capacity, and market access among women participants.

LPC research team was led by Mr. Joemark Ablian, LPC’s Research Development and Extension Director, whose leadership and persistence were credited for the project’s successful approval after months of preparation, evaluation, and validation.

On the other hand College President Dr. Elmer B. De Leon lauded the achievement as a milestone for LPC’s research and extension agenda, noting that the project strengthens the institution’s commitment to inclusive development, Indigenous Peoples’ empowerment, and gender-responsive research.

“My great commendation to the Research Team led by the Director Ablian, for another job well done and for the effort, sacrifice, prayers, and long wait. Indeed, it was just a brave, bitter attempt, but it ended with better, sweet smiles.” Dr. De Leon said.

Meanwhile, the earliest allowable project start date is set on February 2026, pending completion of documentary requirements and work plan revisions as required by the NRCP.

The award adds to LPC’s expanding portfolio of externally funded research initiatives and reflects its continued pursuit of excellence in instruction, research, and community engagement. #
