Limay Polytechnic College (LPC) officially inked its partnership with Polytechnic University of the Philippines for joint research and extension services.
The signing of memoranda of understanding and agreement was transacted between the two polytechnic institutions represented by Dr. Elmer De Leon, LPC president, and Dr. Ana Ruby Gapasin, Vice President for Research, Extension and Development (on behalf of Dr. Manuel Muhi, University President) on February 27 at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines - Main Campus in Sta. Mesa, Manila.
During the signing ceremony, VP Dr. Gapasin warmly welcomed the guests from LPC and noted that, now that LPC is an official PUP partner, the University is open to any assistance and services it may extend to LPC. In fact, it may also expand the partnership to include other areas, such as faculty exchange and joint academic ventures.
Likewise, in his acknowledgment message, elated Dr. De Leon gratefully acknowledged PUP for accepting and extending support to LPC. For him, choosing a humble LPC to partner with a renowned, top-caliber university, given board examination performance, world university rankings, and employment visibility, and being the biggest and number one polytechnic state institution in the country, is indeed, overwhelming and something worth celebrating.
"If I am to make a qualitative research today, I may have two thematic codes: 'Ang Makabuluhang Pagbabalik' as it is always good to be back home; and 'Pinagtagpo at Itinadhana' as he interestingly shared the untold story on how this meaningful collaboration engagement started its journey unexpectedly and timely, including reuniting with the directors and chief who were my friends and classmates back then in 2008," articulated Pres. De Leon.
To note, Dr. De Leon is a proud alumnus of PUP in his doctorate studies journey, and he has also been invited to conduct lectures in teacher education seminars and render testimonial messages during accreditation at the said university.
After the MOU and MOA signing, the LPC delegates held informative, exploratory discussions with the Extension Management Office Team, led by the director, Dr. Rolan Malvar and the Research Office director, Dr. Jackie Urrutia, and were invited to the respective offices to benchmark the best research and extension programs, practices, and policies.
Notably during the exploratory discussion, Dir. Urrutia offered the university research services, resources, and technology management tools. He also promised to involve the LPC Research, Development, and Extension Office in his affiliated Research Consortium.
"Since we are already partners, we will be openly share with you our research resources, digital tools, policies and mentoring assistance, engagement opportunities and other services," expressed Dir. Urrutia.
To note further, LPC already received an invitation to be an affiliate of the Polytechnic Consortium in 2025, organized by PUP, and to participate in its first International Polytechnic Conference through Dr. Urrutia.
Meanwhile, PUP already had an initial joint project with LPC, the successful tree-planting program conducted at the Upland of Sitio Kinaragan, Upper Duale, Limay participated in by nearly 200 employees from PUP, in celebration of the university's 121st Founding Anniversary. And this program is being sustained by LPC, which is for assessment by PUP to ensure the sustainability of this project.
Present during the signing were the Extension Management Office officials: Dr. Rolan Malvar, director; Dr. Edcon Baccay, chief, Extension Evaluation Monitoring Center; Ms. Airavie Joy Austria, chief, Community Relations and Outreach Services; Ms. Mariah Sharmaine Liquigan, Emergency Teacher II (Prep School); Dr. Edna Bernabe and Dr. Angelita Villaruel, cluster coordinators 1 and 2; and Ms. Joyce Ann Geslaya, administrative staff.
