Limay Polytechnic College has launched a new artificial intelligence-powered called LPC C.A.L.M. AI Tool or Care, Assistance, Listening and Mindfulness, a mental health support tool designed to provide immediate, accessible assistance to students experiencing emotional distress on October 12, in observance of Mental Health Month .

Developed as a student-centered digital companion, the tool offers Psychological First Aid rather than professional counseling or medical advice. It provides a nonjudgmental space where students can express concerns related to stress, anxiety, academic pressure and personal challenges through guided, supportive conversation

College officials said the platform was created to address barriers that often prevent students from seeking help, including stigma, fear of judgment and limited access to counseling services. By being available around the clock, the AI tool serves as a first point of contact for students who may need immediate emotional support

Built using ChatGPT, the LPC C.A.L.M. AI Tool engages users through empathetic listening, grounding exercises and mindfulness-based prompts. A key feature is its ability to switch seamlessly between English and Tagalog, allowing students to communicate in the language they find most comfortable

School administrators emphasized that the tool has strict ethical boundaries. It does not diagnose conditions, provide therapy or replace licensed mental health professionals. Instead, it encourages students to seek help from trusted individuals, the Guidance Office or appropriate campus services when concerns escalate

The initiative is led by Cheyser Charrese C. Gatchula, college department head, with support from the Guidance Services Office, the Information Technology Education Department and faculty advisers. Together, they oversee system reliability, ethical safeguards and referral pathways to ensure responsible use

Since its launch, early use of the tool has centered on helping students manage academic stress, anxiety and emotional overwhelm. College officials said feedback is being collected to refine the platform, strengthen safety prompts and improve integration with existing student support services

Administrators said the LPC C.A.L.M. AI Tool reflects the college’s broader commitment to student well-being and innovation in education. By combining technology with Psychological First Aid principles, the program aims to normalize conversations about mental health and remind students that help is available and accessible. #
